Career

After completing her formal education, Rashmi decided to take up the teaching profession. At present, she is an assistant professor of psychology at D.A.V. Post Graduate College Dehradun.

Facts/Trivia

  • Like her husband, Tirath Singh Rawat, Rashmi Tyagi was also active in student politics during her college days and was a leader of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, a student wing of the Hindu nationalist organisation Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). She contested the student union election for the post of the college president at Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut in 1994. Even now, she is seen campaigning for her husband ahead of political elections.

  • Rashmi was also inclined towards pageantry during her young days. She has been titled Miss RG and Miss Meerut.
  • Born and brought up in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, Rashmi moved to Uttarakhand’s Pauri Garhwal district after getting married to Tirath Singh Rawat.
  • Rashmi is also a social worker and has previously worked for a Meerut-based social organisation, Surbhi Pariwar.
  • Reportedly, Rashmi’s grandfather, Ved Prakash Tyagi, took part in India’s freedom struggle for which he was sent to jail more than 50 times during the British Rule in India. He was an influential personality and was popularly is known as Mini Gandhi among the people of his region. He died due to a road accident in the late 1980s.
