Career

While pursuing B Tech, Appurv realised that it wasn’t his cup of tea, and he started looking for an alternative career option. In an interview, he said,

In the first year itself, I had realised that engineering is not my cup of tea, but I completed my studies as my parents wanted me to.”

While he was exploring several professions, his brother advised him to join a non-profit public speaking organization called Toastmasters International. It is an organisation wherein people from all age groups come together to teach and practice public speaking techniques. While sharing his experience at Toastmasters, he said,

I started performing at the Toastmasters Club. Over the next three years, I gave a number of performances. Some people told me I was funny, which encouraged me. I tried my hand at humorous speeches. Then someone told me that I should try my hand at stand-up comedy.”

While working with Toastmasters International, he performed around 1000 stage shows, opened clubs in different locations, took many leadership roles, etc. After completing his graduation, Appurv was offered many jobs by the top MNCs, but he desired to pursue a career in stand-up comedy. Later, he performed around 700 shows which include shows at some top IT companies like Microsoft, Adobe, American Express, Airtel etc. In 2014, he came into limelight with his first solo show ‘AppurView-Laugh With an Engineer’ which was telecasted on NDTV Prime in the show, The Rising Stars of Comedy with Appurv Gupta.

Thereafter, he performed various other solo shows like ‘RelationShip Or RelationShit’ and ‘Laugh with an Engineer 2.0,’ ‘Kaafi Wild Hai,’ etc. On 15 January 2016, Appurv started the web series ‘Mudde Ki Baat’ in which he humorously talked about the topics such as startups in India, cricket, Bollywood, Chetan Bhagat etc.

In 2019, Appurv Gupta opened a Central Club at Akshara Theatre for stand-up comedians to perform. He has over 10 Million views on the stand-up comedy videos uploaded on his YouTube channel. He extensively tours around India and abroad to perform his slow shows.
