Ruturaj Gaikwad started playing for the team of Maharashtra. He was a part of the U-16 and U-19 teams of Maharashtra. Ruturaj played for the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy for Maharashtra which marked his debut in first-class cricket.

In December 2018, due to his consistent performance in the state matches, Ruturaj Gaikwad was bought by Chennai Super Kings for the base price of Rs. 20 lakhs. He was a part of the 2019 Indian Premier League. ^[3]Outlook
