Nasty C is a South African rapper, songwriter, and record producer who shot to fame with the songs, Juice Back (2015), and Bad Hair (2016).

Nasty C was born as Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo ^[1]Forbes on Tuesday, February 11, 1997 (age 23 years; as in 2020), in Diepkloof, Soweto, South Africa. After his mother died in a fatal car accident, he was raised by his father in Durban, South Africa. He has been rapping since he was nine years old and completed his high school education from Allen Glen High School in Roodepoort, Johannesburg.

Career

As a Music Artist

On May 24, 2013, at the age of sixteen, Nasty C released his debut mixtape titled ‘One Kid a Thousand Coffins.’

Later, in 2014, he released a mini-album, L.A.M.E (Levitating Above My Enemies). In 2015, he released the mixtape,  Price City featuring the song titled ‘Juice Back’ earned him immense recognition.

 

Thereafter, in 2016, he released his debut album, ‘Bad Hair’ under Mabala Noise Entertainment. Bad Hair turned out to be one of his most prominent albums which reached number-one on the iTunes local charts and was the most-streamed album in South Africa within 24 hours of its release.

 

On December 2, 2016, Ngcobo released the extended version of the album ‘Bad Hair’ named ‘Bad Hair Extensions’ which featured four new songs including the lead single, Allow, for which he won various awards at the 16th Metro FM Music Awards. Thereafter he has released various albums such as Strings and Bling (2018), Zulu Man with Some Power (2020).

OTT/Web Series

Nasty C made his digital debut with a cameo role in the six-part Netflix African original young adult series Blood & Water, in which he played the role of Zhero.

• In 2015, he won Best Freshman Award at South African Hip Hop Music Awards held in Johannesburg. Nasty C was the youngest recipient of the South African Hip Hop Awards.

• In 2016, he was nominated under the category of Lyricist Of The Year Award at South African Hip Hop Music Awards.

• In 2017, he won the titles, Best New Artist, Best Male Album, and Best Hip Hop Album for his music album, Bad Hair Extensions, at the 16th Metro FM Music Awards. He also won Song of the Year Award for the song, Hell Naw.

• In 2017, he was nominated under the category of Best International Act: Africa at BET Awards.

Facts/Trivia

• He has been rapping since he was nine years old and it was his elder brother,  who taught him the basics of producing music and also influenced him to rap.

• Nasty C shot a music video for the song, Hell Naw, at Allen Glen High School from where he completed his high school education.

• On June 5, 2020, Nasty C teamed up with American rapper T.I. for the song, ‘They Don’t’ addressing racial injustices with lyrics referencing the death of George Floyd, an African American man who was killed during an arrest by a white police officer named Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis, United States.
